About us

This website was founded in 1999 by Kirsten Thompson, and built upon the work of the Male Contraception Information Project’s 1994 publication “Frontiers in nonhormonal male contraception: A call for research”. Ms. Thompson utilized her training in biology to review and summarize scientific research on experimental male contraceptives.

MaleContraceptives.org has grown in scope and impact over the years. The site receives over 70,000 hits each month and has become a respected source for information, with links from Yahoo! and the BBC. As we are one of the only organizations reporting on experimental male contraceptives, our goal of providing accurate, unbiased and timely information is of heightened importance.

With the aim of leveraging public interest into policy change, the International Male Contraception Coalition was founded in early 2005. While continuing to provide information directly to the public, the Coalition has also begun working with researchers and funders to speed the development of new male contraceptives.

Funding for the Coalition has been provided by the Pioneer Foundation of Nevada, which works to advance innovative medical research.
